Man, I can't believe you FINALLY finished this! It seems like it's been kicking around for like a year! Looks awesome, though; well worth the time. I LOVE the new shading; it adds so much character. I'm slightly confused by the light source; is it coming from the bottom right? There just don't seem to be any cast shadows, and the shading on the leg looks like it should be coming from about ass-level, but then the skull looks more like dim light directly on or maybe overhead. Ack, sorry if I'm being overly-critical... Anyway! I really adore that skull! The roughness of the shading really makes it look organic, and the way you used layers of color to emphasize depth is really beautiful and effective. The line of her back is very pleasant, too; very elegant. And that bunny is still freakishly adorable. <3
I can't remember how long it took me to finish this. I don't even want to think about it xD Never thought I WOULD finish it, either.
Oh, don't worry about the whole shading comment thing. Paying attention to light sources is actually something I REALLY need to work on. I don't pay attention to them at all. I just pick one general direction for putting shadows and then just go. That, and since I stopped working on this forever I just went and did whatever I felt like doing for the rest that wasn't colored.
I can't wait until my next colored commission, though. I want to develop my coloring more and hopefully this time I'll actually work on the light source and make it make sense.
Ooh, something that helped me with lighting was pretending that it's foggy and that there's a lamp off screen, and then physically drawing in the light coming from that source the way it would catch in the fog. So like, there'd be little, yellow lines expanding out from the upper, right corner or wherever. It helps draw attention to the three-dimensional shape behind the two-dimensional plane you're working on, because when the yellow hits black, you think, "Okay, is the light ACTUALLY touching here, or is it being blocked by something else?" Also, faaaairly certain I'm crazy, so take my techniques with an ocean full of salt. Which reminds me, `hibbary wrote this great journal article about seeing three-dimensional shapes, and it has an exercise/technique that may help with your shading.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
